Anyone who has ever done the Char Dham Yatra or is thinking about doing it must be familiar with the name Gangotri. It is a small town in Uttarakhand district Uttarkashi, centred around the Gangotri temple, which is one of the four holy temples of Char Dham. The lives of people living in Gangotri revolves around this temple and the pilgrims who visit this temple.

Gangotri is situated right next to the river Ganga, one of the holiest rivers in India. People in India look at the river Ganga, as a Goddess and worship her. According to Indian Mythology, Gangotri is the place where the Goddess Ganga was released from heaven by Mighty Lord Shiva from his luscious locks.

Gangotri Glacier

Surya Kund Gangotri

It is another spot in Gangotri that you can visit. It is a revered pilgrimage spot for devotes.

Dharali

Dharali is a small located at the banks of the River Ganga, it is located at an altitude of 648 meters above from sea level. After traveling a 19kms journey from Gangotri you can reach Dharali.

Harsil

To peace and serenity seekers, Harsil is a must-visit-place. It has remained unspoiled to this day, giving you the best time of your life in the lap of Himalayas. Harsil is the hidden jewel of Uttrakhand. You can reach by traveling a journey of 25.1kms.

Jalmagna Shivlinga

It is one of the main attractions of Gangotri. You can see the Shiv linga immersed in Gangotri due to which it is hard to see it during summers. If you still wish to see it, you can visit Gangotri during winter.

Bhairon Ghati

This name has been given to this spot because of its junction of two rivers. Jadh Ganga and Bhagirathi merge at this point and go forward as one. It is present at a distance of 10kms from town Gangotri.

Gangnani

For someone who is into meditation and spiritual awakening, Gangnani is a must-visit-place. It is situated at a distance of 46kms from Uttarkashi on the route to Gangotri.

Bhojbasa

It is situated at an altitude of 3,775 meters above sea level. Bhojbasa is a must-visit-place with its scenic spot. You can reach Bhojbasa by 14km trek, this trek starts from Gangotri.

The majority of activities at Gangotri are related to pilgrimage and trekking. If one wants to do trekking and wish to visit nature in-depth, they can visit Gangotri.

Gangotri temple is open for six months of summer if one is visiting Gangotri for pilgrimage purposes these six months are the best for them to visit. Whereas for trekking this time duration can vary depending on weather conditions.

You can reach Gangotri just by following this path. The very first thing you need to do is start travelling from Delhi to Uttarakhand (Rishikesh/Haridwar). You can do this journey with the help of a car, bus, train or aeroplane.

After reaching Rishikesh/Haridwar you need to find a bus or a cab to Uttarkashi- Harsil. After reaching Uttarkashi/Harsil, you need to start your journey to Gangotri. You can do this journey with the help of a cab or a bus depending on you.
