History and Importance
Anyone who has ever done the Char Dham Yatra or is thinking about doing it must be familiar with the name Gangotri. It is a small town in Uttarakhand district Uttarkashi, centred around the Gangotri temple, which is one of the four holy temples of Char Dham. It is one of the main attractions of Gangotri. You can see the Shiv linga immersed in Gangotri due to which it is hard to see it during summers. If you still wish to see it, you can visit Gangotri during winter.
This name has been given to this spot because of its junction of two rivers. Jadh Ganga and Bhagirathi merge at this point and go forward as one. It is present at a distance of 10kms from town Gangotri.
For someone who is into meditation and spiritual awakening, Gangnani is a must-visit-place. It is situated at a distance of 46kms from Uttarkashi on the route to Gangotri.
It is situated at an altitude of 3,775 meters above sea level. Bhojbasa is a must-visit-place with its scenic spot. You can reach Bhojbasa by 14km trek, this trek starts from Gangotri.
