Shimla Hill Station

The Ridge

It is the wide exposed ground in the core of the town that offers clear views of the mountains. The Ridge road hosts functions, festivals and celebrations. You can take long leisure walks here.

Lakkar Bazaar

This market is situated just off the Ridge. It is known for its wooden souvenirs.

The Mall

It is the most happening place in Shimla. The main landmarks are located in the Mall. This works as the shopping and eating hub mainly. The evenings are very pleasant with lights and illuminations.

Tara Devi

Tara Devi temple is located on the Shimla-Kalka road. The holy destination is very popular among pilgrims. It is advised to take a walk of 5 km through dense forests, to reach the temple. Roads also connect to the temple from town.

Christ Church

Christ Church can be counted as one of the major landmarks of Shimla. It was constructed long time ago, during 1846-1857. It is located over the ridge and exudes old charm and glory. The strategically placed stained glasses and clocks add more depth to the church.

Jakhu Temple

Jakhu Temple is a great place to get a good view of the nearby valleys and towns. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. You can hike or take taxi to reach the temple. It is perched on the highest point of Shimla Ridge, at an elevation of 8040 ft above sea level.

Trekking

The hills and mountains of Shimla are mysteriously beautiful. The population of pine trees, serene lakes and welcoming meadows make trekking a very alluring choice. There are trek routes of both easy and tough terrains.

Fishing

Fishing is also a very engaging sport. The Pabbar River in Rohru, offer good catch of Brown and Rainbow trout. The other sites known for fishing are Seema, Mandil, Sandsu, Dhamvari etc.

Skiing and Ice Skating

Skiing in Shimla can turn out to be really fun filled affair. Skiing can be done at Narkananda and Kufri, during Jan to March.

Ice skating begins on the eve of December and lasts till February. The Shimla ice-skating rink is very large with naturally frozen ice.

The best time to visit Shimla is all around the year. You can take a break from the scorching heat during summer and go to Shimla. The climate remains moderate during summer. There are beautiful natural gifts like flowers and natural beauty to be enjoyed during summer. You can go during winters if you are fond of snowfall. Shimla receives heavy snowfall during winter and tourists gather to enjoy and relax.

How to Reach

By Air

The nearest airport is at Jubbarhatti, at a distance of 23 km from the main center. Regular flights connect Shimla from New Delhi, Chandigarh and Kullu.

By Train

The nearest railway airport is at Kalka, at a distance of 90 km from the city. There are narrow gauge lines that Shimla to Kalka.

By Road

There is a very well connectivity to Shimla from New Delhi and Chandigarh through national highways. It takes around 8 hours to cover the distance from Delhi.
